Beauty Bar!

Hello Friends!

My journey to loving my skin was on a long and arduous road. At a very young age I was diagnosed with eczema. A good majority of my life was spent visiting dermatologist who didn't have a cure for such an ailment. The best they could do was offer medications as a form of putting a band-aid on the situation. Finally, in my 30s I began seeing a doctor who was interested in healing me internally. After many tests, it was discovered I was allergic to many of the items I came in contact with on a daily basis, such as laundry detergent, bath soaps, bubble bath, shampoo, etc. In addition, she spoke with me about eating whole and using vitamin supplements to help replenish where I lacked. With her help, we were able to get my lifestyle choices in harmony with my skin.

Now, a woman in my 50s, I can honestly say I love the skin I'm in. I still have the occasional breakout, but not nearly as often or as irritating as it was in my earlier years. I have done away with household and skincare products that caused me harm. I now subscribe to using products that are free from dyes, harsh chemicals, detergents, and synthetic fragrances.

I've created the Beauty Bar to keep you informed about the products I'm currently using. As you scroll through the list, you'll notice some products have a πŸ’— next to the name. This heart represents products that are more decadent and higher in cost. I don't use them everyday - only on occasion as a special treat to myself.

Face
Cleanser: CeraVe Unscented Foaming Cleanser: Available at Target - I was first introduced to CerVe by my dermatologist when she gave me samples to try. The cleanser manages to gently clean my skin without over stripping. This formula removes surface impurities, makeup, excess oil and dead skin cells without stripping vital lipids. It also moisturizes my skin. It's non-irritating and non-comedogenic. I use both morning and night.

Exfoliation: I often use an exfoliating Hydro Glove by Earth Therapeutics to gently exfoliate my face; or I'll use 1-part CeraVe and 1-part sugar to create a scrub. I'll wet my fingers and then massage the two into my face until the sugar dissolves. For a special treat I use the following product...

Moisture: Brown & Coconut Face Oil - Brown & Coconut was created by two sisters who suffered from acne in their 20s. Now they craft natural skin care with only one thing in mind - Us. Unique ingredients that work with the skin to heal, balance, and nourish. All of their skin care is 100% plant-based and non-GMO, and the ingredients are organically sourced whenever possible. This lightweight face oil nourishes and hydrates the skin while delivering powerful antioxidants and vitamins to repair and protect. Made with organic argan and rosehip oil, this fast absorbing oil balances oily skin while promoting a healthy glow. I think I'm addicted to this face oil. It leaves my skin radiant and supple. The scent reminds me of an luxurious spa...clean and therapeutic.

Simple Micellar Makeup Remover Wipes - Simple® wipes, like all Simple® products, have no dyes, artificial perfumes or harsh irritants that can upset skin and contain skin-loving ingredients and added vitamins for natural, healthy-looking skin. Simple wipes refresh and nourish your skin plus remove waterproof mascara. They are perfect for traveling or for your gym bag when you need a quick cleanse - they work in just one step, no rinsing required.

Body
Moisture πŸ’—Sangre de fruta (Lavender by the Sea): Available at Anthropologie - Based on a deep-seated belief in the power of natural healing, Canada-based Sangre de Fruta embraces locally sourced, organic and wild crafted botanicals at the heart of every product. I use this supremely hydrating, botanical body cream as a very special treat for myself. It has an exquisite whipped texture that is truly like nothing I’ve ever tried. After a long day, I enjoy stepping from a warm bath and then slathering myself with this luxuriously scented body cream. The gorgeous aroma of lavender is soothing and comforting.

πŸ’—Rica bath & body - Butter All OverRica's founder, Dr. Kristina Ivy, is a holistic clinician with a specialty in women's health and stress reduction. Her company's farm-to-vanity recipes are inspired by her Virginian great-great-grandmother's homemade perfumes, cornmeal facial masks and goat's milk skin treatments. It is a gross understatement to say I'm obsessed with this body butter. How do you describe a slice of paradise in a jar? A rich, all-natural and fluffy shea butter that’s your one stop shop for getting rid of dryness. For body, feet, hair and nails, it’s a quick-absorbing butter cream with coconut, avocado and passion fruit oils. The scent is so delicious, I'm reminded of sweet, churned cream with a hint of coconut. It is simply delightful.

Herban Shea Intense Moisture - Herban, Inc. was inspired by stories that creator and designer, Dana Sue Miller, heard from her Mother about her Grandmother's famous handmade soaps. The formulations are based on her Grandmother's philosophy of using natural, body-nurturing botanical components which possess healing properties and promote a feeling of rejuvenation for all skin types. I have several of the scents: lavender, orange-vanilla and rose geranium. The tins are compact and are easy to take where ever I may go. It's my little slice of happiness throughout the day.

Unearth Malee Body Butter - Unearth Malee’s Organic Body Butter is made with organic shea butter, organic coconut oil, organic jojoba oil, and organic apricot kernel oil. Whipped until creamy and fluffy, and infused with pure essential oils, these body butters make excellent moisturizers.

JΔ€SΓ–N® Smoothing Coconut Oil USDA Organic: Available on Amazon - My everyday, all-over body moisturizing treatment. A group of independent thinkers drew upon the pioneering spirit that was so much a part of their California heritage and set out on a road of rediscovery. Theirs was a path back to simple, wholesome ingredients proven safer and proven to work together in naturally effective ways. The virgin, organic Coconut Oil is a perfect, all-purpose moisturizer. Rich in nourishing Vitamin E and antioxidants that melts-at-first-touch. I also use the oil to moisturize my hair, lips, and cuticles.

Cleanse:  Dove Sensitive Skin Beauty Bar is hypoallergenic, unscented formula is gentle on sensitive skin. #1 Dermatologist and Pediatrician Recommended. With ¼ moisturizing cream and mild cleansers, Dove helps your skin maintain its natural moisture. Leaves skin softer, smoother and more radiant-looking vs. ordinary soap. Dove is recommended by my dermatologist and I've been using it for decades. Or, when I want a special treat I'll use...

πŸ’—Herban Inc. Plant Bar - Conditioning, and healing herbal cleanser that lasts 3 weeks or more with ph balance, and delicate scent that last on the skin. When I want a special treat I'll use one of my Plant Bars scented with essential oils.

Hair
Cleanse: Giovanni Cosmetics Eco Chic Haircare (Smooth as Silk Deep Moisture Shampoo). Available at Target - Before switching to Giovanni, my hands use to react to the harsh ingredients found in many other products. The shampoo is gentle on my hands, and of course, my hair. The product is calming and and nice to my naturally curly hair.

For an even deeper treatment, I apply heat by sitting under a hooded dryer. My hair stays soft, shiny, and it keeps my curls well defined.

    1. Neti, the CeraVe and sugar scrub works very nicely. It's two in one...cleanse plus exfoliate.
