Capturing the Catwalk
Runway Photography from the Michel Arnaud Archive

On May 23rd, friends who follow me via Instagram had the opportunity to go with me live to the opening reception of Capturing the Catwalk at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles, Capturing the Catwalk, which is a special double-bill exhibit the captures the work of famed fashion photographer, Michel (pronounced Michelle) Arnaud, along with a collection of over 100 garments and accessories from Dior, Chanel, Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, and more, from the FIDM Museum archives.

Brief History: Michel Arnaud (runway photographer for Harper's Bazaar, British Vogue and Prominent Designers), studied journalism in France in the early 60s and moved to London in 1964, where he began shooting the fashion collections of the day. In 1970, he began working as a runway photographer for British Vogue. From the late 70s, Arnaud traveled each fashion season to the Paris, Milan, New York, and London shows to cover the fall and spring haute couture and ready-to-wear collections. Highlights of Arnaud's archive include complete collections from iconic fashion houses such as Dior, Chanel, Versace, Armani, and Valentino.

The exhibition is free to the public and runs until Saturday, July 7th, 2018, in the FIDM Museum, which is located in Downtown Los Angeles on the campus of the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising - 919 S. Grand Ave, Los Angeles, (213)623-5821

There is a jaw-dropping surprise on exhibit at Capturing the Catwalk. I'll give you a hint - Alexander McQueen.

The Icons of Style exhibition surveys the rich and varied history of modern fashion photography, exploring the ways in which photographers whose careers have been closely associated with the industry have shaped evolving notions of style and beauty. Drawn from the Getty Museum's permanent collection and supplemented by loans from private and public sources, Icons of Style features more than 160 photographs presented alongside a selection of costumes, illustrations, magazine covers, videos, and advertisements.

The Getty Center is a must see California destination. When you go, be sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothing. There's a great deal of walking, especially if you plan on visiting the other exhibits and galleries. Plan to stay the day and enjoy a meal or two while enjoying the breathtaking views.
