Style Is...Authentic!

Welcome to part three of the month-long series
Style Is...

Style Is...Authentic

"When authentic and style are carefully examined, the two topics are naturally conjoined, which would explain why it's difficult to declare one attribute without the other. How can one stake their claim in having style without having a bona fide connection with self?"
Glenda K. Harrison (excerpt from True Style: A Look Beyond the Surface)

Sartorial Savvy:
Let accessories put the exclamation mark on your ensemble by selecting pieces that express your individuality and personality. Accessories should never be an after-thought, rather, your selections must be an important part of your sartorial story.  Don't be afraid to express your true, authentic self.

"The meaning of style has now been revealed as having an ability to establish individuality or uniqueness through sartorial expression - an expression that would be impossible to achieve without the significant character trait of authenticity."
Glenda K. Harrison (excerpt from True Style: A Look Beyond the Surface)

    1. Yes, the 40s and 50s is the look I was going for. Gloves always bring a nostalgic feel. I love these baby pink ones. Thank you so much, Jamala!

  4. I think black and white is always such a classic. Adding the gloves and textured shoes just gives it that wow look. I read above that you have a good collection of vintage gloves-I try but my hands are so large, its hard for me to find older ones to fit, but I think seven months of the year I'm wearing gloves. Again, love your polished look.

    1. Hi Teresa! Thank you so much for commenting. Yes, I do have a nice collection of gloves. I guess I'm fortunate to have small hands, so I haven't had a problem fitting into vintage gloves. I find the vintage gloves fit my hands better than modern styles. I tend to wear them as a fashion piece rather then utilitarian. I live in Southern California, so the weather doesn't typically require them. Nonetheless, they do create such a nostalgia feel to the outfits I construct around them.

  5. Snappy one this week! I'd like to know how you construct your looks. Because I am wondering if this one began with those blush colored gloves? I usually dress from the bottom up. Shoes, then jeans/skirt, then top, then accessories. Maybe that is because of our often inclement weather here in Wisconsin.

    1. Thank you Mithra! To answer your question, for this look, I wanted to showcase the gloves so I used them as the cornerstone for the look. They are from the early 50s, therefore I constructed an outfit reminiscent of that era. The outfit looks very Christian Dior and the NEW LOOK. Often times I want to create a mood with my outfits. Then I begin the building process. The process can start with an accessory, or a main item. It just depends. But I'm always in sync with the message I want to convey. If that makes sense.

  9. OK, Glenda Harrison. I hold you personally responsible. I have been having some health problems and had decided that I just didn't want to blog any more. It was too difficult physically and seeing everyone looking so beautiful and stylish and healthy just made me feel worse about my condition. So I stopped reading blogs as well. But then you sent me an email about your new book. And I started reading your blog again. And you are just so sincere about everything that you do that I just can't stay away. As soon as I recover from my most recent surgery, I am going to dust off my camera and wriggle back into one of my wacky boho outfits. And it's all your fault. Thank you, Darling.

    1. Aw man, Connie, I hate you're having health issues. I know what that's like. I was in and out of the hospital the year I started my blog. My blog and writing about subjects I'm passionate about is what gave me life and took my focus off of what wasn't going the way I hoped. In hindsight, the illness put me on a much richer path, and I don't regret it now. I hope when you re-enter blogging, you'll feel a new found zest. I miss your posts. They always made me smile :) Welcome back! The book is in the final stages of production.
