The Southwest Revisited

Hi Friends,

Just a friendly reminder - This week we're finishing up A Place Called Peace, so I'm stopping by to quickly share a trip down memory lane. One year ago today, I published a post called The Great Southwest. It was one of my most favorite photo shoots. The location, the weather, the mood, and a surprise guest, all made the post come together beautifully. I hope you'll stop by to see the original post - The Great Southwest. In the meantime, here is a picture, which I believe, captures the essence of this fashion and life story. Enjoy!

Outstanding!

Outstanding:
 Something that rises above and excels others of the same kind.

Hello Friends!

Recently, Whitney from the blog - Whitney Nic James formed a Facebook group based on her ongoing series called #FearlessWoman, of which I was a part on July 15th (Here is my Fearless Woman interview). Last week, Whitney asked the Facebook group what song is currently our favorite motivational/inspirational song of the moment? My response was an old school song called Outstanding by the Gap Band (circa 1982). Each time I play it, I imagine myself strutting down a city sidewalk in a drop-dead gorgeous outfit and sexy heeled sandals with a group of distinguished, well dressed gentlemen following behind me singing this song. Yes, I'll admit, I have quite a vivid imagination.

Why I have Outstanding on repeat...
Because my editor (thank you Debby Alten of Alten Ink) just sent over the final edits for A Place Called Peace! I can't believe the process is almost complete. After an entire year of writing, re-writing and re-writing again, I'm finally at the cusp of having it published. In the picture above, my sassy feelings are depicted by having my feet encompassed in a pair of golden heeled sandals and red polished toenails kicked-up on the desk where I spent the last year toiling away. Yes, my dear friends, indeed I feel outstanding!

Soon to be released!

Here's Outstanding, the funky song that made it's debut in 1982. Enjoy!

Did you close your eyes and imagine what I described above, but for yourself? I hope so, because you should also feel Outstanding{wink}

By the way, this week I'll be working on wrapping this project up. So please, my dear friends, understand this will be my complete focus. Therefore, I will not be posting outfit stories. I'll be back Sunday with another fashion post.

Fringe Benefits

Fringe Benefits:
Something extra (such as vacation time) that is given by an employer to workers in addition to their regular pay.

In my mid twenties I held a position within a company that offered unbelievable Fringe Benefits...Stays in the best resorts in the country; bonuses that made your heart sing; spa experiences to erase stress; fine culinary dining; holiday parties aboard yachts. Shall I go on? It was, what my hippie alter-ego would call - The cat's meow.

As I relive those incredible days, I thought it apropos to wear a garment befitting to the idea of Fringe Benefits - A plaid, fringed cropped top which offers many perks to my wardrobe - A great piece which can be dressed up or down, business or pleasure. Who doesn't appreciate such a garment? Well I can't think of one person. We all find it beneficial to add items to our closets that expand it beyond belief. Such is the case for this fringy top. As for adding fringe to your wardrobe...Designers are still having a love affair with the detail, and plan to continue adorning their garments well into spring 2016.  I hope you enjoy the look!

And please, stay to the conclusion of this post, I'm offering my own perk for subscribing via email to So What to Twenty!

It's Vegas Baby!

I realized it’s been awhile since I’ve posted a capsule collection. Vegas.com inspired me to create an #ultimatevegasoutfit for a weekend in Vegas. Las Vegas is only a few hours away from my home, and going there for the weekend is often what the doctor ordered. In my lifetime, I would guess I've been to Vegas over 30 times! It makes for a nice getaway. I enjoy laying poolside at one of the incredible resorts/casinos like Mandalay Bay Resort; then on to a bit of afternoon shopping and sight-seeing at the Venetian; followed by cocktails at Bar Masa in Aria; and finally dinner at Olives in Bellagio, and a spectacular show at Caesars Palace.

My inspiration for this collection takes from a bit of everything that makes Vegas - Vegas...The warm desert sand (after all, Vegas is situation smack dab in the middle of the Mojave Desert); the turquoise waters from some of the worlds greatest swimming pools; millions and millions of glistening lights; and of course, the unprecedented night life. I hope you enjoy the collection!

It's Vegas Baby!

Did I wet your whistle for a Las Vegas getaway? If so, when you get there, tell 'em Glenda sent you {wink}

This week I'm working on the final edits for A Place Called Peace. Therefore there will not be a gathering at The Intersection. I might, however, pop on Periscope to say Hi and share a fashionable tidbit.

Colorcopia

Early last week, while driving to the location for the Bend It Fashionably Like Beckham photo shoot, we turned the corner and spotted the most glorious of painted buildings. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen the post which simply read - Future photo shoot location - For sure! I couldn't wait to coordinate a colorful, yet simple outfit. After all, I didn't want to compete with the visual masterpiece. And since I didn't want to take away from the artist's work, I'm choosing to allow this post to become more about the work and less about what I'm wearing.

On past occasions, I have made mention of my love for the arts. After cringing my way through my son's Saturday football games, I like to relax by visiting the local art communities and museums. Whether it be visual art, writing, music, sitting in on a great lecture, and of course, fashion; I thoroughly enjoy the experience of delving into the mind of an artist. I found the work I'm showing today to be masterful.  And while some may turn their noses up at such an explosion of pop culture, I found it to be the perfect representation into the mind of a young artist - colorful and bright, playful and whimsical, filled with many ideas, and very optimistic. Enjoy!

With splatters of fresh paint decorating the sidewalk below the School of Arts and Enterprise, I was ├╝ber excited to take my position next to the impressive mural. Across the street, I noticed another artist photographing the building as well. As we continued with our shoot, the photographer, named Kristine Schomaker (check out the cool virtual installation on her website) approached us and gave us the history and name of the mural's creator. The work, called Pomonacopia, was created by her friend, Andre Miripolsky - a dynamic pop artist who has created works for Elton John (the famous 1980 Concert in Central Park “Piano Keys” costume) and Bette Midler (album package/visual design for her 1982 worldwide “DeTour”), as well as Quincy Jones, The Rolling Stones, Gato Barbieri, Robin Williams, Beastie Boys, Cheap Trick, MTV, and “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno. Wow is an understatement! Kristine then asked if she could take a picture of me having my picture taken so she could share the image with Mr. Miripolsky, using the hash tag #pomonacopia. My response...Hell yeah!

Pomonacopia by Andre Miripolsky. School of Arts and Enterprise.

Kristine went on to tell us how the work was created. Miripolsky projected his rendering onto the building, where he then was able to sketch the images. Then he, along with his team, painted the images throughout the night. Painters were provided with somewhat of a "paint by numbers" guide.

The day I first caught glimpse of the mural - Pomonacopia

Outfit Details - Kick Cropped Denim: Ann Taylor Loft (almost sold out. Check out this great pair by Citizens of Humanity at Nordstrom.com); Yellow Sweater: (Many yellow sweaters at Shopstyle. Love this yellow sweater by J.Crew); 9-West Sandals; Orange Kate Spade Handbag; Original Hand Painted Brooch; Aviators: From last summer Ann Taylor Loft (New Aviator Sunglasses at Loft); Nail Polish is Recessionista by essie

Please, take the time to visit the Andre Miripolsky website. He has quite an extensive and impressive oeuvre. There may be several works you are familiar with. For persons residing in California, you may be surprised to know, many of the murals decorating our state are done by Miripolsky. Last spring I visited Monterey Bay to hear my son play at the Monterey Jazz Festival...I had no idea the Urban Wave mural outside the Museum of Monterey is Miripolsky's work! This turned out to be an extraordinary post for me. What started off as a routine photo shoot, turned out to be a cornucopia colorcopia of a day, filled with history, art, and color {wink}

Bend It Fashionably Like Beckham

Last night at The Intersection, we had a grand time talking about eBay! I shared my favorite eBay wins/purchases, divulged some of my secrets to finding great merchandise at the mega auction house, as well as sent the participants the So What to Twenty: eBay Strategies for a Winning Wardrobe. For today, I'm wearing two of my latest eBay acquisitions. If you recall from the post My Secret Weapon, I shared my love for the Victoria Beckham fall/winter '15 collection, and made mention of the asymmetrical hem and mid-calf boots. Since I don't have tons of money to spend on clothing, I often search within the world of eBay to create the look for less. Shot against the periphery of ThreeForty in the Art District, the blue skies combined with gray and white clouds, made a picture perfect backdrop for the color palette in today's look. I hope you enjoy my Bend It Fashionably Like Beckham interpretation.

Oh yes, I've decided to no longer post the videos from The Intersection onto the blog, and reserve this special time for those who decide to join me live. If you're interested in seeing the rerun, Periscope holds the video for 24 hours.

Outfit Details: Skirt by Anne Klein Seville Row Collection via eBay; Gianni Bini Mid Calf Boots via eBay (There are still available sizes from various auctioneers); T-Shirt purchased from Kohl's; Crystal Pendant Necklace: Ann Taylor Loft; Silhouette Crystal Watch by Citizens

A closer look at the gathering and drape detail

You don't have to spend loads of money to create a fashionable look. My entire ensemble cost me less than $150. With eBay, you don't have to skimp on quality if you're strategic and have an eye for well-made pieces. You'll look like you stepped off the soccer field runway{wink}

One last thing. I'm now a contributor to Midlife Boulevard. You probably noticed the logo on my side bar. Here is the link to my latest Midlife Boulevard write-up called, I Embraced My Silver Hair. Enjoy!
