To The Max + The Intersection #1

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the lovely ladies and men who joined me at The Intersection on Periscope! Yes, I was nervous, but once I started styling the maxi shirt-dress (shown in this post), I felt like I was chatting it up with my dear friends. I think Periscope is a genius idea and I look forward to spending the time with you all again next week. Stay to the end of this post and see a portion of the actual broadcast. During the broadcast, I styled an Ann Taylor Loft Maxi Shirt-dress in three different ways. Today, I'm wearing one of the looks - a more classic, sexier look that I would wear on a date, out dancing, to a jazz concert, or perhaps to Los Angeles Fashion Week. Enjoy!

Outfit Details - Ann Taylor Loft Beach Sheer Stripe Maxi Shirtdress (almost sold out); Petite Skinny Jeans: Ann Taylor Loft; Ann Taylor Loft Strappy Sandal (Sold Out. Identical by Jeffrey Campbell at Nordstrom); Peace sign necklace purchased at an artisan artwalk.  Bold ring purchased last year from Anthropologie; Braided Belt by Ralph Lauren (Black Braided Belts at Nordstrom).

And now...The very first gathering at The Intersection on Periscope. During the broadcast you'll hear a male voice. That is my husband and he's telling me what viewers are saying during the broadcast.

Remember, if you want to gather at #TheIntersection, you'll have to download the Periscope app onto your cell phone. It was really good fun and I hope you'll join me next week in the comfort of my "styling studio" and watch how I pull looks together{wink}

The Intersection

I receive many questions pertaining to fashion and life. I've decided to dedicate Wednesday evenings to answering your questions LIVE. Join me at 7:00pm (PST) at The Intersection - a LIVE Periscope broadcast. If you haven't heard of Periscope it's a member of the Twitter family and is the latest BIG thing in social media. It's simple - just download the app onto your device (free for cell phones) and follow @SoWhattoTwenty. It's that simple. Periscope will send you a message telling you that the broadcast is live and for you to join.

Once you join in, touch your device screen as many times as you like and send me lots of hearts. This is my way of knowing you like the broadcast. You can also type your questions and I'll see them instantly. But here's the cool part, you're not only communicating with me, but everyone else who has gathered at The Intersection.

I look forward to seeing you at our first gathering at #TheIntersection on Wednesday, July 29th at 7:00pm{wink}

Different

Since I was in my youth, I always felt the need to be different. While other girls wanted to wear the latest trends or jump on the bandwagon toward the latest fad, I waved the bandwagon away saying, "No thanks. I'm headed in a different direction."

I felt no need to join the others. Something within me felt it necessary to blaze my own trail. Some would ask, "Why not take the road which has already been laid?" Sure, it makes perfect sense - the journey would require less work, thought or preparation. But regardless of the less amount of toil, I could not release the idea of being different. In my eyes, being different was and still is much more interesting than being basic.

For today, I'm wearing an outfit which is a reprise of pieces you have seen before, however today, the items are joined by elements which take the look on an entirely different journey...a scarf tied around the neck or on the head, and a pair of unique flats. Pay close attention to the shoes. While on an impromptu shopping trip with my husband, I tried them on. His response was, "They're different." Enjoy!

Outfit Details: Flat Shoes with Ankle Strap: Zara; Frilled Top: Zara (sold out); Petite Dark Rinse Curvy Skinny Jeans: Loft (Loft Jeans); Medium Basic Sunglasses: Loft; Square Silk Scarf: vintage (beautiful scarves at Nordstrom. Love this scarf by Ralph Lauren)

Should I take the road which has already been laid?

My hair blowing in the wind isn't a concern. I'm just being different {smile}

Today I leave you with this to ponder {wink}

"If you always go where you have already gone,
then how can you see what has never been seen?
If you want to see what has not been seen,
then choose to go where you have not gone."
G.K. Harrison

And...don't forget to download Periscope (a member of the twitter family) on to your device. Join me for The Intersection, and interactive broadcast between me and you. Follow @SoWhattoTwenty on Periscope!

Friends

A pair of pants that hug your hips perfectly; the top you receive tons of compliments on; the handbag that houses all your belongings just so; the sandals that go with everything...

We all love reaching into our wardrobes and grabbing our favorite things. Don't we? Except these items are no longer just things, rather, they have become our tried and true friends...reliable, dependable, trusted. You get the picture.

On this relaxed Friday, I dedicate this post to my friends. Some new, and some have been with me for years. But regardless, they hold a special place in my heart. Enjoy!

The pants are quintessential Glenda - lightweight, cropped and with a bit of a slouch - they hang on my hips just right. For some reason they also evoke somewhat of a rock 'n roll feel. I've decided to style them with my favorite swing shirt with ├╝ber puffy sleeves, this summer's favorite sandals and my cherished silver accessories. This outfit can hang-out with me at many of my favorite locations...the Getty Villa, lunch at the Ponte winery in Temecula, shopping the cool stores in L.A., spending the afternoon strolling around Victoria Gardens, or to the farmer's market on Sunday. Anywhere I take my friends, we always have a great time.

Outfit Details - Stripe Twill Relaxed Cropped Pants: Loft; Navy Blue Swing Top: Gap 1969 Collection (Very old): Tie-Up Sandals: Bernardo Vintage Couture; Crossbody Bag: classic Coach (Purchased years ago. Options Coach crossbody at Nordstrom and Coach); Belt: Calvin Klein via TJ Maxx; Sunglasses: Loft (Sold Out. Similar Leopard Sunglasses at Nordstrom; Silver Jewelry: Purchased in Mexico.

Sterling Silver Jewelry purchased in Mexico

I'm so in love with my silver curls.

What are your #wardrobefriends? I bet you have plenty who have stood the test of time {wink}

Stripe While the Iron Is Hot!

I had the greatest intentions to produce two fashion posts this week, however, like I mentioned in Flabbergasted, the weather was freakish, and on top of that, photography schedules didn't match-up. So what's a blogger to do when this occurs? Well, rather than wallowing in self-pity, I decided to go with the flow and utilize the unscheduled time away to chill out so I could create space in my mind to develop new ideas. It's nearly impossible to develop new ideas when your mind is over loaded. It's amazing what you can conjure-up once you quiet yourself. After two days of serenity, the ideas started lining up in a neat, little row.

Bright Idea #1:
First, you probably noticed my new header (which will be used for all So What to Twenty branding). During an afternoon nap, I visualized it. What do you think? I labored for a very long time to come-up with just the right concept and feel for a logo. I wanted something cheeky and flirtatious, but still making a bold statement. And then, just like that...tah dah...it hit me. When the timing is right, and the mind is clear to create, you have to strike stripe while the iron is hot! And that's exactly what I did. Yesterday afternoon I created a rough draft and then sent it over to my creative genius of a friend, Martin Olivera, who made my vision come alive. Thanks Martin!

Bright Idea #2:
Second, while allowing my mind to marinade in its creative juices, I thought of a clever idea to communicate with YOU, my friends and awesome So What to Twenty community. Beginning next Wednesday (July 29th) at 7:00pm (PST), you'll be able to connect with me on a live Periscope broadcast where I'll give suggestions to cure your fashion emergencies...or just plain ol' fashion and style advice. If you haven't heard of Periscope, it's the newest app in the twitter family which allows us to broadcast live to whomever is following. But first you have to download Periscope to your devices. Don't worry, it's free for phones. Once you download the app be sure to follow me @SoWhattoTwenty.

To represent striping while the iron is hot, I'm wearing a dress that speaks for its self - a black and white vertical and horizontal striped dress. The last time I wore this little Ann Taylor Loft number was on a post called, Pristine back in June 2014. I wasn't thrilled wearing it then, but today, I feel great! Perhaps because my mood has changed and the timing is right. Sorry some of the pictures are dark. Bad outdoor lighting. Enjoy!

Outfit Details - Dress: Ann Taylor Loft (Last year but plenty black and white dresses at Shopstyle); Black Cardigan: Loft; Strappy Sandals: Ann Taylor Loft (Sold out. Check out the Manna Ankle Strap by Enzo Angiolini from Nordstrom; Patent Clutch with Pearl Closure: vintage. Canary yellow cocktail ring.

Under the gray clouds, we try to make our own sunshine by playing with the exposure.

I hope you all enjoy my Bright Ideas and I would love to see you on Wednesday evenings. Remember, if you create space for your minds, you'll come up with many clever ideas, but timing is everything so be ready to strike/stripe when the iron is hot{wink}

Flabbergasted!

Well friends, the much needed rain California so desperately needs has decided to join us during our usually glorious, hot summer. Yep, we are in the middle of a freakish summer storm and I am completely flabbergasted! For the past couple of days, the clouds have unleashed their fiery upon us...rains, wind, lightening strikes. The whole storm thing that we're not use too around here. The cool thing about the storm is it gave me an opportunity to name a post flabbergasted. I happen to LOVE saying flabbergasted. Have I ever told you I love words? Anyhoo...

So here I sit, at my desk on Sunday afternoon, unable to get out to take fashion pictures. I feel somewhat melancholy (I love that word too), however I know the reason behind my sorrowful mood. You see, I'm not much of a rain kind of girl. Give me the sun and I'm a happy camper. But amid all the storms, I know how much my precious California is thirsty, therefore, I will push my emotions aside and put on happy face.

In the spirit of California when it rains storms, I've decided to pull in photos from a post called Silver Linings (circa March 2014 and before I decided to ditch the hair dye) - Another day when the weather decided to not cooperate. If you want information on the outfit, please visit the link to Silver Linings. Thank you. Enjoy the pics and stay to the end where I answer a few questions since being nominated for the Liebster Award by Delilah of Pump & Studz..

1. How did you decide on the name of your blog?
I want everyone to know So What to Twenty is not a slap in the face to women in their 20s. It is, however, a slap in the face to an industry which constantly makes women of a certain age feel less than desirable. So What to Twenty is an affirmation for women in my age group and above - we are still beautiful, relevant and can still rock a look so, So What to Twenty!

2..With regards to your blog, what is your favorite blog post/look and why?
Hmm. Ok, my favorite look was recently in MAXImum. The dress I wore was stunning. I felt awesome in it. My favorite post(s) was a series I did on transformation. The posts were: Confident, Dark Liquid, Road Closed, Shine and Emerge. I took my readers on a journey in search of Glenda. It was very therapeutic, indeed.

3. Have you done something which pushed you outside your comfort zone lately? If so, what?
Yes, I'm writing my first book called A Place Called Peace.

4. Heels or flats?
Depends on the occasion and the look I'm going for.

5. How do you motivate yourself to blog regularly?
I like to connect with the people who follow So What to Twenty!

6. What is a common misconception about blogging?
It's easy.

7. Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, or Twitter? Why?
Instagram. I'm a sucker for pretty pictures.

8. If you could live in another country, where would it be?
France or Great Britain

9. What is the best thing anyone has ever said about your blog?
It inspires them.

10. Are you an introvert or extrovert?
Introvert

11. What’s your go-to comfort food?
Ok, don't laugh. It's soup. Yes, I know not many people crave soup, and my family makes fun of me. But I LOVE a good bowl of soup. It must be connected to some sort of childhood memory...

I hope you enjoyed this post. If you want to learn more about me, please see my #FearlessWoman Feature by Whitney Nic James. Hopefully I'll be able to take fashion pictures later this week. In the meantime, stay true{wink}

Blue Sky

Lately I've been so distracted...unable to concentrate on a single project, and wanting to spend every waking moment outdoors. On Monday morning, I woke with the intentions of delving into a productive work week. However, on my way to the dentist, my youngest and I took notice of the beautiful weather. The air was crisp, the temperature was perfect and oh my goodness the incredible blue sky. By the time we finished our dental appointments, I cleared my schedule. Instead, we headed to the beach. Work would have to wait.

Excuse me while I have a love affair with the soft hue of sky blue. Recently I have become quite fond of the delicate color. Because of this new found love, I made three acquisitions for my wardrobe - the recent dress worn in Sleek, a basic crew neck sweater, and the top I'm wearing in today's post. Typically I wouldn't gravitate toward pastels. When I do wear color, I had the tendency to lean more toward high saturation - striking canary yellow, electric blue, Kelly green. So then why the shift in perspective? The best reason I can foster is I love looking up into the clear blue sky. When the sky is blue, I'm more energetic, and yet, I feel calm. I want to taste the outdoors and relish in all that it has to offer. I feel as if I'm wrapped in its serenity and my mind is free to explore - the creative spirit overtakes me.

For today's look, I'm wearing a no-fuss, sky blue swing top, paired with my favorite skinny black pants and caged sandals. The look whispers minimalism but manages to have impact...sleek sandals and feminine accessories give this outfit an almost retro feel of the 50s when women wore "cigarette" pants, colorful swing tops and ballet flats for smart dinner parties. Trade out my shoes and I feel the urge to offer you a martini.

Outfit Details - Summer Swing Softened Shirt: Ann Taylor Loft; Moto Pants: Ann Taylor Loft (No longer available. Check out the Tech Stretch Skinny Ankle Pant); Cat-eye Sunglasses: Nordstrom; Sky blue Triple Strand Necklace (vintage), Michael Kors Caged Sandals (Loving these Davinya Cage Sandals by Schutz). Floral Fabric Clutch: Ann Taylor Loft (Sold out but great selection of floral clutches on Shopstyle).

Sky blue triple strand necklace (vintage).

Above is a picture I snapped on Monday from one of our many piers along the California shoreline. Isn't the sky simply breathtaking? In the distance you can see a cruise ship leaving the harbor. Now you understand why I put work on hold. Who can resist the blue sky, the sound of the waves, the warmth of the sun...oh my, I think the outdoors is calling my name again{wink}
