Basics

A wardrobe consisting of a plethora of basics can surely extend the life-span of one's wardrobe. I tend to go through seasons of change with my purchases. There are times when I stock up on items that express the bohemian or quirky side of Glenda, and then there are times when hunting for good, classic basics are on the agenda. The perfect pullover sweater, the denim jacket, wide-leg trousers, and white sneakers are mainstays in a well curated wardrobe. At least they should be...in my opinion.

Having basics for your wardrobe building blocks guarantees a more substantial closet - one that allows you to create a wide variety of looks. As an example, I have worn the basic wide-leg trousers in today's post on quite a few occasions - in a post called The Game Changer; another called Perfectly Curated; and again in Pineapple'd. As you can see, with each look, I managed to style the pants in completely different looks - from ultra classic - to playful - to bohemian. Today, I share another look which pulls a group of basics together to create a classic but relaxed ensemble. Enjoy!

Today's Basic Look Includes - Wide-leg Trousers: Jones New York (Love these black wide-leg pants by Cynthia Steffe at Nordstrom); Denim Jacket: Ann Taylor Loft (from many years ago. Current denim jackets at Ann Taylor Loft); Periwinkle Pullover Sweater: Ann Taylor Loft (from summer); Metallic Stripe Scarf: Ann Taylor Loft (Great selection of metallic scarves on eBay); Sneakers: Sperry Top-Sider: Nordstrom; Black Belt: Michael Kors via TJ Maxx (great assortment of belts at ThredUp. Huge variety of black patent leather belts on eBay.

The great thing about shopping for basics is you can shop for them regardless to the season we're in. For myself, I tend to shop off season. By doing so, I'm able to stock-up on items at a very discounted price. I simply tuck them away until the weather permits. And, since they are basics, you don't have to worry about them going out of style - if that is a concern of yours {wink}

Speaking of stocking up on favorites...Scentsational Soaps is having a GIANT sale beginning Saturday, November 28th - 30% off your entire purchase (excluding gift sets). Now's the time to try their decadent, handmade soaps and skincare products. No coupon code needed. Simply click the Scentsational Soaps banner in my right sidebar and enjoy the experience.

  6. Agree with you about basics being the building blocks. They are the good foundations of a wardrobe which then allow you to take flight. And all the while I love that you recognise the different facets of your style personality.

    Shopping off season? Absolutely, that's shopping smart in my book! And often you grab yourself a bargain to boot!

  12. Couldn't agree more with you Glenda on the importance of basics in a wardrobe, they are certainly the building blocks of a great look. I happen to love trousers with sneakers, reminds me of Lauren Hutton or Diane Keaton's looks - love it! Thank you for linking up with SHOE AND TELL on STyle Nudge!!
