Styling Modern with Vintage + The Intersection #2

I am having a complete blast at The Intersection! Thank you so much to the ladies and men who joined the conversation in my "Styling Studio"!

In last night's broadcast, I piggy-backed onto the posts I published this week - Kick-Hem and Black Down Memory Lane. Both posts were dedicated to vintage and vintage inspired clothing. To drill the subject in further, I decided to use our time at The Intersection to show how you can pair your modern pieces with vintage to create a perfectly curated wardrobe.

Back in 2/2014, I premiered on the blog, my most cherished vintage find - A 50s, ivory, swing coat with 3/4 inch sleeves

During the broadcast I mentioned Cherie from Style Nudge as a great source for vintage handbags and jewelry. I purchased the white handbag, which I'm showing in Kick-Hem, from Cherie's vintage shop, and I love it. Another great source for vintage fines is eBay. Over the years I have collected quite a few pairs of gloves. Some I've purchased from local vintage shops, flea markets, and of course, eBay. Enjoy an excerpt from this week's gathering at The Intersection!

During the broadcast I made mention of certain posts. Here are the links:

I hope one day you will all join me at The Intersection. I love the interaction and the opportunity to connect with you on a more personal level.

  1. I commented on that fabulous coat last night on The Intersection! It is just a wonder! I am thinking more now about adding in vintage pieces since reading these posts. To me, shopping vintage is like a treasure hunt. Once again, I enjoyed The Intersection, both the styling segment (great ideas and inspiration!), and the honest dealing with subjects of interest to all of us. You are doing a great job with this Glenda! I have a question maybe you can address sometime - what do you do with all the 'stuff of life' that we tend to drag around? I'm tiring of tote bags, but also don't enjoy switching out to a smaller bag every time I want to just dash out, then come home and reload the tote to drag all my stuff back to work. I keep trying to pare down and short of always switching out bags, I'm not sure what to do! Maybe I shouldn't be so lazy! : )

    1. I'm so glad you're enjoying The Intersection, Karen. Leading up to the show I always feel quite nervous, but once I start styling and interacting with all of you, I feel the tension wash away.

Vintage shopping is like a treasure hunt. That is a perfect description. When you find that special treasure, it feels like Christmas morning.

You propose a good question to address on an upcoming segment. Stay tuned :)

    1. Yes, my coat. I don't get to wear it much in California. But when I do, it's magic all over again.

  5. I am so glad that you rebroadcast this since I can't yet seem to make the live show. Just beautiful, Glenda. I'm nuts about the Bishop sleeve top with the boyfriends. So cute. The 50's style really suits you. And you do have a very nice voice :)

    1. Connie, I hope you're able to join. It's good fun! Yes, I adore 50s and 60s fashion. I live the idea of ensemble dressing and those two decades thrived on complete looks.

I can't wait until it cools so I can wear the jeans and Bishop top. Did you hear me have a fashion or gas when I held the vintage bag next to the outfit?

  10. I so enjoyed watching your little Intersection video - hearing your voice and being able to see you in 3D is so great. You are even more adorable live!! Are those fishnet stockings??? If so, love it. I wear them all the time. And, that coat is to die for. And, I am so glad to see you wearing gloves, I have a collection and often wear them, but I never see anyone wear gloves anymore, so bravo!!

I definitely need to join one of your Intersection gatherings.

Thank you so much for mentioning my store in your post. I very much appreciate it! Just so you know there will be lots of new items coming this fall.

Blogging has proved difficult for me this summer. I can't wait to get back to full time in the fall.

    Thank you Glenda!!

    1. Thanks Cherie! I'm having a great time with The Intersection. My voice is receiving lots of attention. I'm surprised by this. Yes, I'm wearing fishnet stockings above. I adore them. You're so right about the gloves. I love wearing them. They're so ladylike. Today I went vintage shopping and found a late 40s early 50s, navy blue suede pair by Crescendoe. Would you believe they were still in their original box with tissue from Rike's Dept. Store?! I was completely floored. I can't wait to wear them with the ivory coat (above) :)
I'll keep my eyes glued to your shop...and blog :)

  11. Glenda, I adore you! I watched this just now. You are doing a wonderful job, both styling-wise and communicating-wise! Congratulations on your new adventure!!! I will admit, I imagined you with a deep voice, just reading your posts, but I am loving your voice and mannerisms now that I saw you in action. I feel like I met you in person. :) You are the most charming! I have a similar approach to vintage pieces, I like to mix them up with contemporary designs - you can create such dynamic outfits, and I just love it. I remember all of the vintage pieces you showed here, they are gorgeous. I would also get the pussy bow blouse and the white coat in a heartbeat! xxx

    1. Natalia, I am so amazed on how many comments I've received about my voice. When it's yours, you don't think much about it. I know at times, when I would answer the home phone, and adult would ask if my parents were home. Crazy huh? I would always say, I am the parent. I didn't realize how soft it was. Oh well.

Yes, vintage is soooo fun to wear. I just love the history behind it. I always feel so special in my pieces because I know no one else will have it on :)
