Mute

It has only been a few weeks since school let out for my sons and already my usual introverted self is desperate for my much needed time alone. When school is in session, I typically begin the day with a gentle rhythm that's very similar to being cradled with a sweet lullaby. I had my own morning routine...meditation, followed by a good workout, and then a healthy breakfast. All of these things fueled me, and when it came time to take my place at my computer, it was super easy to delve into writing. Peace encompassed my home. As I typed away on my chapters, I would take periodic breaks to gaze out my bedroom window, watching and enjoying the sounds of the lawn sprinklers, while sipping a warm beverage.

Now with my sons home, my natural alarm clock has been replaced with the sounds of competitive banter while they play the latest video game (I think that's what they still call them. Perhaps I have dated myself); or the gardener mowing the lawn by 6:00am to beat the stifling California heat; a house full of boys (including my son's friends) devouring the last crumbs in the kitchen; and then there's the statement that puts every parent on edge..."We're bored. What are we doing today?" Not knowing I'm completely satisfied with absolute stillness. Oh how I wish I could reach for that imaginary button - push it firmly, and put the sounds of my current situation on mute.

Don't get me wrong, I adore spending time with my sons, its just their being out of school and home during this crucial time of writing a book has pushed my usual relaxed routine into over-drive, leaving me to search for tidbits of tranquility. So for today, as I seek peace, I also quiet my wardrobe by wearing pieces which have a soft drape, easy to wear, and of course, in delicate, muted shades...soft metallic gold is paired with creamy tones of white and a splash of mellow yellow. Each garment caresses me with their pliable fabrications. Enjoy the look!

Outfit Details: Cropped Wide Leg Pants from Ann Taylor Loft (On major sale); Flowing Pleated Gold Metallic Top from Anthropologie (From a few seasons back); Floral Handbag from Banana Republic via eBay (Do a search. You may still find a few available) or (Check out the Floral Handbags at Nordstrom.com); Gold Metallic Heels from Banana Republic via eBay (Crazy for this similar metallic wedge gold sandal from Neiman Marcus).

Like I mentioned above, during my quiet moments, I look forward to indulging in a warm beverage. Recently a heard a review for a coffee alternative called Teeccino from one of my favorite authors - Jennifer L. Scott  (Lessons From Madam Chic). After hearing her review, I was eager to try the brand. Teeccino is caffeine-free herbal coffee alternative. Here's a statement taken from the Teeccino website - By including herbal beverages in your daily life, you can enjoy numerous cups a day of delicious tasting herbal teas and herbal coffees that bring you many wellness properties. Herbs contain a complex variety of  unique antioxidants, soluble fiber, enzymes, essential oils, and immune stimulating constituents that work together synergistically to promote good health. Additionally, those who are experiencing caffeine withdrawal benefit greatly from weaning off coffee with Teeccino.

(I have not been compensated in any way for this review. It's just me sharing with you) I'm happy to tell you the Teeccino faux coffee in the Vanilla Nut flavor is actually quite good. Since I'm not an aggressive coffee drinker (I much prefer teas), I opted for a medium roast. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor - a delicate blend of creamy vanilla and almonds - Yum! I've been enjoying having a few stolen moments of sipping the warm drink, while the rest of the world is on mute. Tell me friends, do you also search for that big, imaginary mute button? How do you escape from the chaotic times?{wink}.

  1. I feel you on the summer noise and routine change. One day we'll miss the banter as the house will be dead quiet everyday. The food's disappearing act is especially annoying this time of year. ;)

    1. You're right Joni. One day I will miss all the noise and banter. It is up to me to find a balance so that I'm not losing it by summer's end.

    1. Oh thank you so much. My children don't understand my need to shut myself off. It is the way I refuel. I love to socialize on occasion, but then I need to withdrawal. Thank you for the compliment. I fell in love with the bag many years ago. When I it resurrected it's self on eBay, I was thrilled.

  4. I love this look, almost white on white, yet not. Gold & white are lovely together. I just love Anthropology tops!! About the need for solitude, I can truly relate. I am such a loner by nature but didn'the take you for one!! My two sons (now adults with families of their own) continue to be the joys of my life. Like you, I love the time I spend with them. But the solitude is something that grounds and refreshes me. The way you typically start your days sounds wonderful. I might need to think my own routine after reading this!

    1. I agree...white with gold is very pretty. Typically I wear lots of silver with white, however, on occasion, I enjoy wearing it with gold. The two together remind me of ancient Greece. I feel like I should have a golden olive branch in my hair.

Oh yes, I adore my sons and hope they'll continue to live and grow their families in California. I look forward to being grandma and taking the family on trips to Disneyland. Yes, I look forward to these times, but I also look forward to nice, quiet solitude. It is ever so refreshing.

I empathize with your plight, but am so happy about your book!

  7. What a nice post. All parents know so well that constant push and pull of having the kids around in the summer. This reminded me very much of an entry in the J. Peterman catalogue. 😉

    1. Hi Nicolene and thank you! As I type this message to you, God must have smiled upon me. I had the privilege of writing in my room today. Completely undisturbed. A always thought South Africa would have a very warm climate year round.

  12. Love how you styled my favorite Ann Taylor pants. I am really loving the all white, mute look and that handbag is adorable - it looks vintage. Brilliant to pair yellow and golds with the off-white. I, too, am an introvert and can totally relate to your desire for alone time. I feel like I have a revolving door at my house in the summer. It's never quiet. I wish for many peaceful, quiet moments for you this summer Glenda!

  13. Sounds like we are two peas in a pod! I'm experiencing some of the same summer "noise"☺. Love the interpretation of "muting" into your outfit. Enjoy the quiet moments but the noise as well...you are blessed to have it!

  14. Oh yes, these days I love silence and being on my own. (I never would have imagined that when I was younger.) but it has to be interrupted by some friends coming for coffee (I am totally addicted to coffee).

  15. I enjoy quiet time and a warm beverage too. With a little guy running around, those peaceful tranquil moments don't come that often, but when I get them, they are treasured. I am loving your neutral palette and I am a big fan of peplums and your top looks great on you.

  16. This post took me back a few years. It seems like it wasn't long ago when I wished for my sanity when the kiddos were out of school but now that they're on their own at times it's eerily quiet. Most days I enjoy the solitude but then there's days I miss the chaos (never thought I'd say that lol). Your outfit as always is very nice and I love the bag!! I'm gonna check out Teeccino and see if I can give it a try. Thanks for the tip!!

  17. Love this look! A great way to wear white on white (wearing different textures and shades of white). And love the bag, so well put together and elegant!
