The Game Changer: Peplum Chambray

I can't begin to recall the number of times I have tried on a classic button down chambray shirt, with the intentions of purchasing, to change my mind and leave it in the store. I appreciate button down shirts...really, I do. However, on my body-type, I much prefer a button down that uses a fabric that promotes fluidity and movement; and details that compliment a curvaceous figure such as puffy sleeves, nipped waistline, or perhaps even a peter pan collar.  In other words, the basic, straight-cut, button down doesn't do a thing for my physique and I find them very difficult to wear.

Just when I gave up all hopes of ever owning a chambray shirt, I walked into Anthropologie over the weekend to find the one of my dreams perched proudly on display. Leave it to Anthro (as shoppers affectionately call them) to have the type of top that speaks to me loud and clear - a feminine, swinging peplum style in a delightful gradient blue, or ombre. I know I have spotted my latest addition to my wardrobe when I can immediately imagine several items in my closet with the desired piece. After trying the top on, I knew, without a shadow of doubt, that I was no longer defeated in my search for the perfect chambray shirt...I had found the game changer. Enjoy!

 Today's Look - Chambray Swing Top: Anthropologie; Wide Leg Trousers: Jones New York; Art Floral Pouch: Loft; Nine West Fasten Up Slides purchased via eBay; Sunnies: Loft; Hammered Silver Stacked Cuff purchased in Mexico; Large Hammered Hoop Earrings: Icing.

This week begins Fashion Week for Los Angeles. I'm quite sure my new chambray top will be included in one of my first looks for the week. I'm so excited to see the latest collections from Los Angeles based designers while dressed in my new friend. Not only is the top on trend with denim, but it's comfortable, and stands out from the norm - a definite Game Changer {wink}

  3. Yes, it is indeed! The perfect top, leave it to Anthro and you to pair it with those sleek black trousers and gorgeous flat shoes. Love the bag, too.
    The photos, with the mosaic on the ground and the graffiti on brick, so mosaic like , is also fabulous, a perfect backdrop for the game changer!
    Enjoy fashion week!

    1. I fell in love with the location. It's the actual site of one of the many Art Walks in our area. I think this top is going to get a lot of play. I love it and was so happy to see that the bag went perfectly with it!

  8. I love the ombre side to it too. All sorts of fashionable ideas incorporated! Mind you, I'm not that into following trends. But I hope you enjoy immersing yourself in fashion week. It's good to feel the creativity. xo Jazzy Jack

    1. The ombre adds that certain special element. If it were just the solid color, it would be more basic. I'm not a trend follower either, but recently I've gotten more into denim pieces. Just so happens denim is hot right now.

  14. Pretty spiffy, you! As always. Sweet top ... very flattering and a modernizing silhouette with the retro chic of your wide-leg pants. Love it that your're showing out in some flowy wide-legs ... in this ongoing process of rearranging our closets here and trying to get my dressing-room functional, I came upon a STACK of wide-leg trousers in several cuts and fabrics ...some of them still with the tags. I only dimly remember collecting them. Yikes. That's awful, but good that I can cross that purchase off my list of things to try this spring! We'll see if I can pull it off as cleanly as you have.
    Thanks so much for your recent encouraging remarks. I just needed to go to ground for a while, but the worst of my winter is over and I'm looking forward to spring again.

    1. Normally I would head straight for the slim cut trouser when pairing with a peplum. However, this top, because of its fluidity, works well with a wide leg as well. I felt very bohemian in this look so my husband and I decided to take the shots in our local art district. This is the only pair of wide leg trousers I own. I, too, am on the hunt for additional pieces. Preferably denim. As you know, it can be difficult to find great cuts for the petite woman.

  15. I too, love this top and just purchased it yesterday! I can't wait to wear it. I agree that it will go with so much! Love your pictures/backdrop. I remember coming across your blog when I was decided on buying the Dahlia Peplum top this summer too (which I did). Love how you styled that too!

  17. Love this chambray peplum shirt! A regular boxy denim shirt does nothing for me either. It took awhile to find something a little different that worked. I like your choice even more! Thanks so much for linking up, Glenda. Have a great weekend!

Perfection in every way, Glenda! And I love such stories - isn't it a proof that miracles happen and dreams come true, big and little ones. :) xxx

  19. Glenda, I want that shirt. I adore peplum, especially in denim. You look so great in it and I love that you put it with black pants and sandals (are those Nine West sandals new? because they are fab too!) You look so comfortable in it all. Comfort is so key to effortless style, which you have an abundance of my friend.
