White and Chocolate

My 7-day intermission turned out to be longer than I first anticipated. Yes, I enjoyed my little reboot. If gave me time to secure some things in regards to my next BIG project. Don't you just love secrets? During this time I realized that I can't be all and do all things at the same time without something falling by the wayside. So yes, this break was of the utmost importance. When I have something that I need clarification on, I often resort to cleaning. Taking something and making it beautiful and presentable is very therapeutic for me. While delving into my project, I also did a huge sweep of my bulging closet. I decided that I'm going to do some volunteer work with a organization called Dressed For Success - a global not-for-profit organization that promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Rather than hauling some of my now-too-big clothing to alterations, instead, I'll donate them to this organization. I always feel so good when I'm giving back.

After cleaning out my wardrobe, and getting my ducks in a row for my unsaid project, I developed a sudden urge to get back into the swing of blogging. I don't know about you, but seeing all the goodies arrive into the stores for spring, and then watching the Fashion Week shows has made me want to do some shopping. Have I ever told you I have a huge fetish for white clothing? Well, I do and it is insatiable. Evident by my Pinterest board seen HERE. I simply cannot get enough of the non-color. When I open my closet, a swarm of white garments glare back at me...and I love it! Each time I visit the stores, whether online or in person, I seem to gravitate toward the neutral. I always feel organic, fresh and crisp when wearing it. I believe my love for it comes from the contrast that's created when it's next to my deep chocolate skin tone. Nevertheless, this is one habit I'm not willing to break. I love, love, love wearing white - regardless to what season it is. Enjoy!

Today's Look: Flared Gap Shirt dress (Options HERE. Mine was purchased a few season's ago. Last worn HERE when I met Rachel Zoe), Calvin Klein Belt via TJ Maxx, Chocolate Riding Boots by Marc Alpert Collection (Similar HERE. Mine purchased when I was 17 years old!!!), "G" Necklace is C. Wonder via TJ Maxx (I've spotted lots of C. Wonder products at TJ Maxx since they've gone out of business).

Read the story about my boots HERE. I've had them since the age of 17!

Necklace by the now debunked C Wonder

I  missed you all and it feels good to be back. So let's get the conversation started - tell me, what color or non-color can you not live without and why? {wink}

  1. Dressed for Success is such a great organization. Good for you. Hey, I have that same dress. Aren't we cute. My daughter has a thing for white clothing, too. I'm directing her to your Pinterest board.

    1. In my opinion, MK can do know wrong. Since the early 90s I've followed his collections. Regardless to what year it was created, it never looks old. Perfect pieces. And yes, I LOVE that collection with those leather floral belts and gorgeous white frocks.

  5. I missed you and am happy to see you back! White looks sensational on you and I do love it with brown. Living in NYC and being on the pale side, I generally don't wear much white, except for a summer white t shirt.

  7. Indeed white looks gorgeous on your skin. And I love this dress, but I love it even more they way you wore it when you met Rachel Zoe. With the belt I think it becomes less mature. If you don't mind me saying so. I do love the brown of the boots and the belt with it though. And the necklace.
I know that in time you will tell us all about the project. So we will wait in anticipation.

    1. I like the dress styled both ways. However when I wore it yesterday, I was indeed intending on exuding a youthful presence. It was a fun day and I wanted to dress the part :)

  8. Glenda,
I am so glad you are back. YOU were missed! Love the white dress, it is flattering and simple and fresh. I think that is a trifecta! I am so impressed you have had those boots for a few years ;).
So wise to hang onto such classic goodies. I am pleased about your decision to donate! And yes, I have noticed the change in your physique. You look wonderful, but I must say you have me in such a state of suspense.
I love all colors! I am most comfortable with neutrals, but even bought something recently in tangerine. What attracts me most to a garment is what is hardest to see from a photo, the quality, the finishing, and the details. I am a sucker for the beautifully made, and my complexion is neutral enough that I fell like I can wear any color with a change of lipstick and or the addition of a scarf, or necklace, to add a new color to my face!
LOVE this look on you, sophisticated SoCal!

    1. You are fortunate to have such a great love for color. I love the idea of color, but often choose to use neutrals. However this year, I did manage to purchase more colorful items. Thank you, Elle, for saying I was missed. That makes me feel good.

  9. Welcome Back, Glenda!! Love reading your posts so yes, you were definitely missed. I do realize that blogging is just like everything else and downtown is needed and have planned some mini vacays for 2015. With that being said, I never use to be a fan of the noncolor, but it is slowly starting to grow on me and even now will only wear it either as pants or skirt and not close to my face. Your outfit is simple, yet fresh. I love the compliments of chocolate next to white. http://www.pumpsandstudz.blogspot.com

Dressed for Success, always a favorite--the store I worked at in Santa Barbara donated many clothes to this great cause. I'm so with you about having spring on the mind. I'm currently questing for shoes, as sizes go fast here. I have to stop myself from blowing my little budget on early spring offerings ... I shop too early and miss the best things that appear here just a little closer to spring.
I'm pulled away from blogging by other projects just now as well ... all related ... and continue to try just to keep up. We persevere!

  26. You look amazing in white! And how cool that you have kept these great boots for years! I wish I did the same with some of mine - though back then, we used to own only one pair of everything (a pair of boots for Spring/Fall, a pair for Winter, a pair of dressy shoes, a pair of sandals...), so they were worn to pieces. :) Glad that you enjoyed your time away from blogging and feel recharged now! xxx

    1. Thank you Natalia. I've kicked myself on occasions for not having held on to a great item. When you have it, you don't think that it'll become a great classic. With these, however, I knew they were special. I still can't believe how long I've had them :)
