Clouds

It's a simple fact...sometimes we have to create our own source of comfort. This summer has been absolutely brutal as far as temperatures are concerned. Each day, by the time I rise for my morning workout (about 6:00am), the temps are already hovering in the 80s. By the time midday rolls around, expect it to be around 100+. You would think I would be use to the heat by now, since I have lived in Southern California most of my life. Honestly, when I was much younger, I use to love our hotter than normal heat, but now that I'm more seasoned, the heat just gets on my nerves. I can take it in moderation, but day-after-day for months and months (our summers can extend into November)...that's an entirely different story.

I have been begging Mother Nature for comfort. "Please, I beg you, can we have some comfort. Perhaps a cool breeze, or maybe even some clouds to block out some of the heat?" And, to much avail, she granted my wish by covering our skies with clouds that gave us a summer rain. Albeit a hot rain, but the nonetheless, it was still slightly cooler. But now we are back to square one. As I look up into the skies, there isn't a cloud in sight. Just endless blue. So now I must create my own source of comfort, by way of fashion...of course.

Today I'm wearing an Anthropologie, vintage inspired, cotton shirt-dress that I have dubbed my Cloud Dress (last worn HERE in Just Dandy ); simply because it reminds me of the puffy clouds we see in our skies. It is oh-so airy, light-weight, and floats around my body in the same fashion that clouds drift above. The embroidery and pleating adds a special dimension to the dress. Without these delicate details, it'd simply be a white dress. Rather than pairing my dress with an obvious shoe choice, I selected to wear them with my Silver Jerome Oxfords by Sam Edelman. The comfort of these shoes are beyond amazing. I guess one could say they feel as if they're walking on clouds when they wear them. And as usual, I have kept my accessories and jewelry simple and apropos to the entire theme of the ensemble.

Today's Look: Dress from Anthropologie (old), Jerome Oxford Sold out in silver but more colors HERE), Socks from Target, Purse by Nine West via eBay, Cat-Eye Sunnies purchased by the Getty Center Gift Shop.

A close-up view of the embroidery and pleats.

I have a weakness for silver accessories. Especially mirrored silver.

If you want to feel as though you're walking on a cloud in your shoes, then Nordstrom has a huge selection of Sam Edelman shoes, sandals and boots, and many are currently on sale during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! So take that Mother Nature, since the weather has sucker-punched us this year, I have made myself into my own little personal cloud{wink}

  1. Love this dress with the silver shoes! Great look overall! From South Texas where we have the same type of heat, I feel your pain!

  2. Glenda,
I certainly remember this special dress and I love the way you wore it this time. With the fab metallic oxfords and socks. Girlish, and fun, but not too sweet. I hope the hot weather recedes and that an actual cloud and coloring beeez comes you way. Anyway, you look cool!

    1. Fortunately, today's forcast calls for thunderstorms. Thankful for the rain and the cool breeze. I'm discovering that this simple little dress can be styled in numerous of ways. Indeed a good investment. Thanks Elle!

  4. A very beautiful dress. And I can understand you will do anything to keep cool. Which is why I am surprised at your choice of shoes. Although they are very comfortable I would think closed shoes are warmer than sandals. Even warmer with socks (not my style but I am rather conservative). And you don't even like to wear closed shoes. So I am puzzled. They are terrific I will admit and they make the dress very 2014. I have tried to wear shoes like these with dresses, but I cannot adapt anymore. I keep taking them off again. My brain can only go so far with new fashion. I am now officially old. LOL
So I admire you for that.

    1. I guess the best way to explain my choice is that I was going with a cloud theme and the shoes are so soft and comfy that I feel as if I'm walking on clouds. And silver is such a cool metal. I love it. Sometimes we make modifications for fashion. I can close my toes up in moderation :)

  5. Hi Glenda! You always accessorize beautifully. I think I need to look for that purse. Perhaps it will fall from the clouds for me today. ;)

    1. Thank you Joni! I have to admit, accessories are my forte'. I worked many years in visual merchandising window displays and I found accessories the funnest part of the gig. I happened upon the purse on eBay. Try to search for Nine West Silver Cross-body bag. I'm not into big purses because I travel light...keys, id, lipstick, hand cream.

  6. Love the silver details, Glenda! Summer hasn't been much torture here. It never gets THAT hot that it becomes almost unbearable.

P.S.: You told me it was nice to see young love, right? I have a surprise announcement coming up soon... ;-)

  7. I am so sorry to read that the heat is getting on your nerves. Glad there is some cooler weather coming your way. We are still on the hot hot hot side, though. Summer will be gone too soon anyway, so I suppose I will make the best of it, there are far too many new summer pieces in my wardrobe I still haven't worn, so I hope the summer will stay just a little bit longer. You look stylish and yet kinda girly, love the look on you. Lovely dress and the bag is to die for. Great pics esp the last one of you. Cute.

    1. I guess I shouldn't complain, Lenya, but we don't have central air...just the window units. It's been so hot they haven't been able to cool the entire house.
      Thank you!

  8. Hi, Glenda:

Your pretty dress is the right match for the heat of summer. The relaxed silhouette and color are spot-on. I like that you chose to pair it with silver oxfords because it is an unexpected hit. I often wish I lived in California; particularly, while experiencing the chilly fall and cold winter weather in the Midwest where I live. It is refreshing to learn that sometimes the excessive heat can be too much. I hope you have an excellent week.

    1. Don't get me wrong, California is a great state with much to boast about. Including the weather. This summer has been super hot. Relentless.

This is one of my favorite dresses. I'm glad you like it!

  9. We had also some very, very hot days here in Germany but we also had some rainy and a little bit cooler days. We wish the weather here which you have. A constant weather. Here it's always up and down. Sun and rain. And you wish for the weather that we have. Humans are strange. You always want what you can not have! ;)
I love your white dress.. it´s divine and it fit´s perfect to you. I think that´s a wonderful way to look very lovely in the very hot summer days. Anthropologie is great, I also have bought some peaces there. And the shoes... oh my god.. I fell in love with them ;)

  11. Glenda, I adore you! Such a lovely dress, and accessories are divine!! It's hot here too - not as hot as in SoCal, but hot enough for many of us here. :)) For clouds replenishment, come visit Seattle - almost no day without clouds, though this Summer is exceptionally long and hot and cloudless I must say! xxx

  12. Hi Glenda, nice look! I especially love the accessories. I recently visited SoCal and to be completely honest although I found it to be nice, the 100+ temps for a week straight was too overwhelming to me. Hope mother nature gives you a reprieve soon.

The white dress is very nice and perfectly matched to silver accessories! I wouldn't have tought to a pair of silver shoes, but they are beautiful! So, thanks for the tip!
