Being Mom

Just a few days ago I wrote a post called Daring, where I shared with you my thoughts on sometimes feeling only like a mom, and less like a coquettish and desirable woman. Today's post is the exact opposite of Daring, as I take a 180 degree turn in the direction of motherhood and being mom.

As a style blogger and fashion writer, I sometimes place undo pressure on myself to dress a certain way. Inevitably, someone will ask me what I do on a day when I'm dressed for no one else, but to look and feel relaxed with my sons. Such is the case for today's look. On this quiet Saturday afternoon, my family decided to go on an ice cream run. On these types of days, I still enjoy a pulled together look, however, the outfit must have a relaxed, nonchalant feel to it. To be perfectly honest, I'm not quite sure if today's ensemble is truly "blog worthy" but I felt the need to bring it down a notch after the va va voom from last week's post, and in all actuality, I tend to dress more understated and casual on most days.

Today's Look: Serein Blouse: Anthropologie, Boot Cut Chinos: Loft (old. Similar in linen), Silver Sandals by Zara (old. Available in gold on eBay), Clutch/Wristlet by Hobo (similar styles on Nordstrom.com)

The details on this top are lovely. However, the photo doesn't do it justice. The top is also woven with metallic silver thread.

88 degrees in the shade.

Can you see my son trying to stay out of the picture?
It's time to head to the ice cream parlor. Like most women, I love getting all dolled up, but in my opinion, nothing can replace the times that I spend relaxed and just being mom {wink}

  3. Another great post and nice story.
    When I'm on 'mom-at-home' mode I usually wear something comfortable and not complicated like t-shirt and leggings so your today's look is much more chic! I like the top and how you combined it with chinos.
    And yes, it's funny how your son was trying to hide ;)

  5. You know I love that top! So something I'd have in my closet.

    I get you on the dressing for the various parts of my personality {roles}. Now that my kids are older and less likely to be out with The Hubs and me, I need to find my sexy.

  6. The top is amazing - dressy, but still relaxed! Wonderful post, Glenda. I looooove being comfortable and spend most of my time in comfortable clothes, being mama or just being me - writing, reading, exploring. I enjoyed dressing up when I was younger and studied at university and then worked in an office. I had to dress up when I had my own businesses and was a public person for a few years. Now I only do it for myself - rediscovering a woman (much what you said in the previous post) and just having fun and being creative with style for my own pleasure. Very indulgent, I feel. :) I think all type of outfits are blog worthy if you want to keep it real. I can't imagine living 100% of time in high heels/wedges and make up and accessories. You are a real woman with children, home to take care of, and just relaxing time. Just the right outfit, especially for such hot weather!! Hugs!

  8. I think this outfit is beautiful, stylish, very you and just perfect for the day. It seems to me that getting all gussied up is easier, in the sense that we know to put on our fancy dress, our best shoes, our best jewelry, but dressing with style for the average every day is more challenging. Finding that right spot between casual but having made some effort, choosing things that are flattering and suit our personal style, and which make us feel good, is perhaps more difficult when done in the context where most women would throw on jeans and a tee shirt or yoga pants. Jeans and yoga pants have their place, but putting on something a little more special sends a message to you and to others. You are telling yourself that you are worth the effort and you are telling the people you are with that they are worth the effort. Well done, Glenda!

  12. Of course it's blog worthy. Most of us live in this practical, operational mode most of the time, as you say! Well worth pointing out the pretty touches that make life better in our ever-day dressing. Pretty adorable. Was the ice-cream wonderful?

  13. Oh dear Glenda, you still manage to look so chic while you are walking to get some ice cream, with that adorable soon by your side. You are always looking so chic and black and white, and I love the way that white blouse is so beautifully embroidered. A lovely contrast to the stark black trousers.
    Being mom is hard work, but so gratifying. You seem to fill that role so effortlessly !
