What I Wore: Rebellious

What's Up?...

Yeah, I know...not my usual greeting. Lately, I've been feelin' rebellious.You know...that "in your face" kind of rebellion. There's no explanation for the attitude. All I know is that I woke up feelin' like wearing leather, and wearing it with a bad %$* attitude. So, I decided to take my morning shoot on the railroad tracks. Yeah, that's right...I broke the law. What's it to you?

What I Wore: Horizontal Lines

Hello Lovelies!

After the rain, there is something so pleasant and refreshing about Southern California. It can almost be classified as a spiritual experience. Today's pictures were taken after a small rain storm passed through the area. It left behind fresh air and a beautiful blue sky...so clean, crisp, and peaceful. With the weather being so lovely, my hubby and I headed to one of our favorite spots. I am a true lover of water and often times, when I need to think things through, being in or near bodies of water has the ability to give me the clear mind that I need.

For a day like today, it's befitting that I wear horizontal lines as they represent the following: They suggest calm and quiet, a relaxed comfort. Horizontal lines are stable and secure. They convey an absence of conflict, a restful peace. Horizontal lines by their connection to the horizon are associated with earth bound things and idea. Love it! So very apropos for today's look.

As you scroll through the pictures, notice the connection between the lines in my jacket and the lines displayed throughout the architecture and the landscape.

Fun with Fashion: Shades of Gray

Hello Lovelies!

There has been so much press lately about whom will become the leading actor in the movie Shades of Grey that I thought I would do a little fashion play on the color...a color that I absolutely love! To many, gray is thought of drab or associated with depression or indifference. For myself, I love the subdued effect of the shade. When I wear gray, it gives me the ability to wear just about any color imaginable with it. However, I must be careful which shade I choose. For my deep, cocoa complexion, the silver or soft heather tones work best close to my face. Below, you'll see my shade of gray in various combinations. Enjoy!

Shades of Gray

Here are some of my favorite colors that I wear with my shade of gray. You'll notice that I enjoy moving away from the norm of black and white to play with more perky colors. Do you remember my post called Lilac Legs when I wore a gray dress with lilac colored tights.

Either shade of gray you choose to wear, and with whatever color you select to compliment the gray, I'm sure it will be a huge hit. I wonder if the movie will be{wink}

Fun with Fashion: Sweet and Coquettish

Hello Lovelies!

I have been feeling positively flirty and playful in the past couple of days. On Fridays, my hubby and I have the opportunity to spend the day together. This is our private time while our sons are in school. It's indeed very special to us since my husband's occupation keeps him extremely busy. During these intimate days, I feel as if we are dating again and I want to dress extra special for our dates. I always want to dress according to my playful mood.

I decided to spend some time on Saturday combing through my wardrobe and coming up with cute date outfits.  One of my favorite outfits that I came up with consist of my little white dress that you have seen HERE. To accent the dress...a jeweled sweater that compliments the blue nail polish. This polish color was a big change for me. Normally I stick with safe colors, but this time, I decided to go daring.

The Look:
Dress: H&M
Cardigan: Cynthia Rowley
Sandals: Via Spiga
Polish: Dining Al Frisco by OPI

I purposely didn't use the word sexy in this post because of recent conversations I've had with men. The men that I spoke to said that to them, sexy isn't sexual. I found the quote below that sums in up...

"The notion of sexiness has become sad, impoverished, and synonymous with cheap. I am very sensitive to feminine charms, but I prefer things to be hinted at...a lovely nape, delicate features, or a certain way of moving. I believe you can be sensual as well as modest. Modesty is in itself desirable"
-Christophe Lemaire (artistic director of Hermes)

I felt sweet, yet coquettish in this outfit. The flirty white mini dress was sweet or flirty, the jeweled cardigan= sweet, the laced booties=flirty, the fun jewelry=playful and the polish=daring. Perhaps that is the way in which my hubby likes me...sweet, flirty, playful and daring{wink}

What I Wore: Feeling Loopy

Hello Lovelies!

Man-o-man has the weather been a complete drag the past couple of days. A drag, that is, for California. I've been waking up to cloudy and damp mornings with the sun finally breaking through by afternoon. To cure me from my weather blues, I popped into Anthropologie on Thursday to take a quick look around the sale section. I found an adorable and quirky sweater. I couldn't wait to wear it for you :)

I decided to pair my new find with a fun pair of slouchy mossy colored pants, and a kick-butt pair of gold strappy's. Since Californians are being sucker-punched with sloppy weather, the sandals are my way of saying, "I don't care what you're doing weather, I'm still going to rock my sandals!" So I did!

Today's Look:
Sweater: Anthropologie
Pants: the Loft
Sandals: Nine West (old)
Belt: Michael Kors
Bangles: TJ Maxx
Polish: Star Party by Ulta

Don't you just love it when a great new item can just put you in a fantastic mood. I love my new sweater. Since the weather threw me for a loop, I decided to fight fire with fire...with my loop sweater {wink}

Have a lovely weekend!

The Irresistible 40's!

At the end of this post, please stay tuned for great tips on How to be Irresistible Over 40!
by Charly Emery of Charly Sense (www.charlysense.com)

Hello Lovelies!

I'm so excited about today's post. I am in my 40's...Forty-seven to be exact and I love it! I remember in my 30's, approaching the forty bracket with fear and trepidation. Flipping through fashion magazines, watching television, billboard ads, etc all displayed sexy and vitality at a very young age. To makes matters worse, often I would hear people make this statement about other women, "She looks good for 40." As if forty was an age that somehow your looks flew out the window. I imagined myself waking up on my 40th birthday to suddenly look unlike myself. I would look in the mirror and ask, "Where did Glenda go?" Glenda is still alive and doing very well. As a matter of fact, I enjoy my age very much!

I was fortunate to have a family that believed in living a balanced life, before balanced living became hip and trendy. Meals were always well balanced, we grew fresh fruits and vegetables in our home garden, playing basketball, jogging, and riding bikes were considered family fun time. What was instilled in me at an early age became my mantra in life:
  • Eat whole foods (Diet)
  • Take care of your body (Exercise)
  • Live with passion (Do what you love)
  • Have a spiritual connection (Faith)
  • Give back (Community Service)
  • Love the ones your with (Commitment)

I receive many comments about the title of my blog, So What to Twenty! Some ask is it a slap in the face to the younger generations? Absolutely NOT!!!

So What to Twenty isn't an insult to our twenty-something generation. It is however a statement of faith to the women in my generation and above. It is for us to realize and say, "I love who I am, and age doesn't matter. I can still rock a look and be incredibly fabulous at any age, so, So What to Twenty!"

Like many fashion and style bloggers, I blog for the pure joy of it. I have always loved fashion and worked in many aspects of the industry for many, many years. I also have a great passion for writing. For me, writing is very therapeutic. I feel such a rush of creativity when my words form together in perfect harmony. With blogging, I'm able to fulfill two passions at once: Fashion and writing!

To be perfectly honest, life is pretty darn good right now. I'm in love with my husband of 21 years; we have two incredibly gifted and talented sons; we enjoy our time together having family fun; I love working in community service with cancer patients; and I adore meeting new and exciting people via the world of blogging. I wouldn't change a thing. Forty-seven is irresistibly good {wink}

And now - Charly Emery of Charly Sense. I met Charly a couple of years ago at a women's health conference in Pasadena, California. Charly was one of the speakers in a workshop. She was dynamic and engaging. You'll enjoy the advice she shares in this YouTube video. Enjoy!
