What I Wore: Faux Leather and Suede

Hello Lovelies!

Today, in wonderful Southern California, the temperature is 105 degrees! So, let's be real...there is no way I'm really wearing faux leather and suede. In all actuality, I'm wearing a tube-top dress and sandals! But, for the sake of fashion, let's just pretend I'm running about my daily life wearing the below look. Close your eyes and imagine a brisk autumn afternoon, with maple leaves scattered about :)

I've been savoring all the fall look books from various retail stores and fashion houses. I'm so ready for summer to come to an end. Even though I enjoy the long days of summer, the barely there dressing, and the times of leisure; I also love the coziness of fall. My look for today is a precursor for the coming months, and demonstrates a more appropriate and mature way to wear leggings.

Today's Look:
Faux Leather/Suede leggings: Zara (sold out). Similar HERE
Billowy top: the Gap
Sandals: Nine West
Clutch: Vintage
Shell Necklace: From a seaside store in Redondo Beach, Ca.
Silver Bangle: Vintage
Silver Ring: Vintage from Pasadena Flea Market
Watch: Disney Millennium
Sunnies: the Loft Outlet

A Maple leaf on the ground. The first hints of fall have arrived.
A billowy, over-sized shirt from the Gap adds coverage so that you can wear leggings to the office.
A statement necklace made from sea shells adds an element of surprise.

Accessories should compliment your look.

Double the fun leggings offer faux leather in the front and faux suede in the back.
Whatever you choose to wear...own your look at rock it with confidence!

I picked up the leggings during Zara's big summer clearance sale while on holiday in Las Vegas a couple of months ago. I've been slowly adding pieces to work with them for this coming fall/winter season. Have you begun adding to your fall wardrobe? If so, what have you purchased? Do tell, I would love to know {wink}

Fun With Fashion: Ivory Layers of Light

Hello Lovelies!

I hope you all had a restful sleep last night. This morning, after having my quiet time, the word LIGHT popped into my head. The word has a special meaning to me: Direction, being a beacon, etc. Because of this, today's look is inspired by Light.

A few months ago, I went crazy bidding on eBay. Today's dress is one of my wins! Originally from Zara, the dress reminds me of a flapper during the roaring 20's. The dress was a bit too large so I had it taken in. In addition, the shoulder yoke (near the rhinestone collar) originally extended to the end of my shoulders. I had that detail altered as well to show more skin. The dress is fun to wear and the fabric has an luminosity quality to it. You'll see in the pictures. The light of the sun just enhanced the lovely quality of the dress even more so.

Today's Look:
Dress: Originally from Zara. Won on eBay
Shoes: Via Spiga
Lace Clutch: Vintage
Watch: the Loft
Sunnies: the Loft Outlet
Jewelry: Picked up from various locations around So. California
Polish: Antique Bronze by Sally Hanson

Notice how lovely the fabric looks with the reflection from the sun.

A loose fitting 1920's inspired dress proves you can still look sexy without wearing skin-tight clothing.

An easy, breezy no-fuss dress for day or for night.

Love how this Electrical Room door was in the shot for a post that's dedicated to Light :)

Via Spiga lace-up booties in an iridescent gun metal gray.

Antique Bronze polish by Sally Hanson
Vintage lace clutch with a variety of silver jewelry.

Aw eBay, you make shopping even more fun!

If you haven't noticed by now, I have a great love for vintage clutch purses. I have several from vintage boutiques, my maternal grandmother, and estate sales. I think they are quintessential chic for both day and night. I travel pretty lite, so they work perfectly for my lifestyle.

With LIGHT on my heart, today I leave you with one of the poems loved by Jacqueline Kenndy Onassis. Have a bright day Lovelies {wink}

She Walks in Beauty
George Gordon, Lord Byron
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies,
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes,
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress
Or softly lightens o'er her face,
Where thought serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek and o'er that brow
So soft, so calm, yet elequent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,-
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent.

What I Wore: Mellow Yellow

Hello Lovelies!

Today is going to be a very busy day. I'm in the middle of promoting my organizations upcoming benefit concert and I'll have to be in front of the camera most of the day. For the past five years, we have hosted a smooth jazz and wine tasting benefit to help raise funds for the cause. It's an exciting time of year!

I had an another outfit laid out the night before, but when I got up this morning, I was in the mood for something lite, carefree and airy...with a little bit of quirk. I guess that's the mood I'm in! Because I'm in such a chipper mood, and yellow being my favorite color, I chose to wear the same dress that I wore when my family saw O in Las Vegas earlier this summer (seen HERE). An adorable 1950's inspired white dress with yellow polka dots. I love the dress because I adored that era of dress for women...and I'm obsessed with the earlier episodes of the show Mad Men. Just like the dresses in the 50's, my dress has a fitted bodice with a full skirt. Check it out!

Today's Look:
Dress: the Loft (sold out)
Sandals: the Loft (old)
Envelope Clutch: Originally from Talbot's but purchased from Refinery 29 (shops)
Jeweled Bracelet: the Loft
Monogram Charm: Swell Caroline
Jeweled Cocktail Ring: the Icing (old)
Sunnies: the Loft Outlet
Nail Color: Imported Champagne by Essie

There is something just so special to me about yellow...warm, friendly and inviting. Just like the season of summer! Today, I'll leave you with a quote from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow:

Then followed that beautiful season...Summer...
Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light;
and the landscape lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood.

Have a dreamy and magical day Lovelies {wink}

What I Wore: Glenda Wears Leopard

Hello Lovelies and Happy Friday!

I don't know about you, but I'm so ready for the weekend. I enjoy time spent with family and friends. What's even more exciting is that we will be celebrating my oldest son's 16th birthday. His birthday is actually on the 20th, but because he'll be busy at band practice that day, we're taking him out this weekend.

Did you read yesterday's post about how the minimalist does leopard? If you didn't, you can read it HERE. Like I promised in yesterday's post, I said I would place leopard on my body. So, here it is...

Today's Look:
Skirt: the Loft (sold out)
Top: WillieWear for TJ Maxx (old)
Leopard Sandals: Marc Fisher (old)
Clutch: Vintage 1950's with pearl closure (belonged to my mother)
Jewelry: Gold hoops by Monet, Ring from J.Crew, Watch by Pierre Cardin,
Jeweled bracelet from the Loft, Shoulder adornment is a LOVE necklace by Rachel Roy
Sunnies: Calvin Klein at TJ Maxx
Polish: Forever Yummy by Essie

A subtle hint of leopard adorn my feet in a flirty strappy sandal by Marc Fisher
The leopard print compliments the entire look.
A small patent leather clutch with pearl closure adds to the feminine details of this ensemble.

This look will work for the office, a party, romantic dinner...you name it!

Minimal classic details combined with feminine, flirty pieces.

I love the details in the sandals. I tie-up is slightly unexpected.

Lovely lace details in the skirt work great with the feminine tied leopard sandals

So there you have it...how the minimalist does leopard. I hope you enjoyed the look. I loved putting it together for you. Have a wonderful weekend Lovelies {wink}

Fun with Fashion: Sparkling Red

Hello Lovelies!

I woke this morning feeling playful and adventurous! To go along with that feeling, I chose to hi-light a fun dress that I won on eBay. A beautifully made, sparkling red dress by Plenty - Tracy Reese. I fell in love with the dress when I saw it on-line. However, when I received it, the fit wasn't quite what I hoped for. The original design of the dress was a complete A-line. Unfortunately, because of the structured fabric, the A-line cut made me look much bigger than I wanted to look. Instead of returning the dress, I decided to have my tailor alter it a bit by adding pleats at the waistline. Now the dress has more of a fitted bodice with a flared skirt. More flattering in my opinion.

Let me be honest, by the time we got out to take these shots, it was already 90 degrees here in Southern California. It was very hot in this dress! So, this is not what I'm really wearing today...I just wanted to show it to you. I think it looks great with my hair, which tends to turn a lighter shade of red during the summer months. I do believe that this little number will make an adorable holiday dress. I can visualize myself wearing it to a great dinner party, or to listen to jazz. I love it with my favorite Zara sandals, for a more playful look. However, for a great holiday soiree, I'll most likely pair it with a nice pair of silver strappy heels.

The Look:
Dress: Plenty by Tracy Reese (eBay)
White tank (under dress): the Loft
Sandals: Zara (sold out)
Clutch: Target (old)
Earrings: Monet
Silver Rhinestone Ring: Francesca's Collection
Necklaces: Avon
Bangle: TJ Maxx
Watch: the Loft
Sunnies: the Loft
Polish: Forever Yummy by Essie
A relaxed, playful dress for a great soiree!
Make your tailor your best friend. Pleats were added to give this dress some shape.

A more casual option would be to pair the dress with a fun pair of flat sandals.

I played with accessories to add greater interest to the silver sparkles.

Because this dress is ornate, I chose simple accessories that play with the look, rather than compete.

Remember this helpful hint when styling a complete look around a clothing item that is ornate: Let the clothing item become the statement. Select accessories that will enhance the look, but will not over power. Because of the neckline details, it wasn't necessary to wear a huge chunky necklace or huge earrings. The simple layering of tiny necklaces and simple hoop earrings worked perfect. In this case...less is more. {wink}

Have a great day Lovelies!

What I Wore: The Perfect Little White Dress

Happy Monday Lovelies!

I slept like a baby last night and woke up feeling alive and well, feminine and pretty. Is it horrible for me to say I feel pretty? I don't mean it in a conceited sort of way. To be brutally honest, I'm thankful that mother nature has ended her weekly stay with me, that the water weight gain has left, and that I can now fit back into my clothes without them feeling a smidge too tight...goodbye cramps!

To celebrate this momentous occasion, today, I decided to wear a perfect little white dress. This is my way of blowing a kiss to the next 28 days of pure freedom! For today's look, I chose to style a white, puckered, front zippered dress. Here are the details:
Dress: H&M - $24.95
Shoes: Zara (sold out)
Scarf: Glitter Lifestyle Boutique (sold out)
Silver arm candy: TJ Maxx
Silver floral ring: Something Silver (Downtown Disney Anaheim)
Silver hoop earrings: Monet
Phone: Samsung Galaxy

As a side note, if you're wondering where I take my pictures, I live in the historical part of my city. The little downtown portion is very pristine, and lined with brick buildings that host quaint little shops and eateries. This morning we could smell chicken roasting and the sweet smell of cookies baking. Yum!

How do you feel this morning? I hope you're feeling grand. That would bring me so much joy!

Have a pretty day Lovelies {wink}

What I Wore: The Lady in White

Hello Lovelies!

I have a funny story to share about my husband. When I first began this world of blogging, and I asked him to take the pictures, he rolled his eyes and complained. Now he's getting into the whole blogging journey and now gives me directions on how to pose. Today, when we finished the shoot and were traveling back home, he began to point out places that he thought would make for a good location. Hmm, I guess he's starting to have just as much fun as I am :)

I'm thankful that the look for 2013/14 is the Lady-like trend. Even though trends come and go from one year to the next, I never stray away from this quiet and demure way of dressing...or in my case, a way of being. For today's What I Wore, I dressed in a vintage inspired dress from Anthropologie. I adore this dress for it's wink at the 1950's era. An attached under-slip makes this dress even easier to wear. At first glance one would think the dress is a no-detailed white dress...but look closely. Delicate scalloped stitching, and a whisper-soft collar add to the dimension and appeal of the dress design. To add a bit more whimsy to the dress, I chose to accessorize it with a chunky, ethnic inspired necklace, a brushed-gold, peau de soie clutch and turquoise, peau de soie strappy sandals to play with the turquoise and gold in the necklace.

Accessories are key to adding dimension to an otherwise simple piece.
Necklace by Anthropologie (sold out)
Pops of color are always a good idea!
A lovely day for a stroll through the park.
Who doesn't love a dress with pockets!
Ring & bracelet both belonged to my mother :)

Just because we are beyond that 20-something stage doesn't mean we can't have fun with fashion. Get in touch with yourself and explore all the many ways that you can express yourself daily through the world of fashion & style {wink}
