Pencil Me In

I take pleasure in sitting at my kitchen table with a cup of tea - No sounds in the house, just the pleasant melodies that come from the outdoors...the sound of cascading water from the sprinkler system, birds singing, morning conversations. I sip my tea while gazing out my window. I watch my neighbor help her young children pick oranges from the tree in their front yard. I love the peace, the tranquility...being alone with my thoughts. This time is precious to me. It is my way of recharging before I begin my day. A time to refresh, unplug and be in the moment.

Have you noticed the huge surge in people who proudly boast the words, I've been busy, when you ask them how they're doing. Those words, in my opinion, are not words to be overly proud of, but have become quite the cliche. As if their busy-ness far more exceeds that of the next person. After all, aren't most of our schedules full with life expectancies? Why has it become so trendy to fill each and every moment of our day with stuff that leaves us unfulfilled and exhausted by the end of the day, rather than finding the time to partake in the simple pleasures? I far more respect the person who has a full life schedule and still manages to interject time to truly experience this precious gift called Life.

For today, I have chosen to dedicate a pencil skirt post to the overly busy individuals who really need to find time to take a chill pill. When you receive a phone call from friends, inviting you to get together for a day at the spa, do yourself a favor, pencil them in.

Today's Look: Pencil Skirt: Target, Top: H&M, Sandals Michael Kors via TJ Maxx, Wristlet (old): Loft

"The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste
experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and
without fear for newer and richer experience"
Eleanor Roosevelt

By no means am I advocating the quitting of jobs to lead a life of leisure. I'm no fool. What I am suggesting is this: We can all afford to carve out time to spend with family and friends, to learn an instrument, to travel, cultivate a herb garden, etc. I retract the statement above. Rather than penciling friends in, do yourself a much needed favor - write it in ink and stick to it{wink}

  5. Looking very good, very feminine and using those gorgeous sandals again. Yes, get as much wear out of them as you can.
    As for being busy... If I say I am, it is not because I am proud of it, but because I am mad over my inability to mange that. For making choices which get me that busy. Fortunately I still see my friends. But it is never enough.

  13. Great post, Glenda! You look lovely and elegant in your pencil skirt and blouse. I agree with you that it seems we live in a world that admires busy people, doing more, doing it all, that sort of thing. I suspect there is an introversion/extroversion connection here, with that busy behaviour belonging largely to extroverts, and extroverts apparently outnumber the introverts of the world. The flip side of that, is the out of reach lifestyle I often see portrayed in magazines, where some wealthy person quits the busy job to slow down and live in a mansion by the lake somewhere. That is not reality for most people! I would like to encourage people to recognise that we all have our own ways of moving through the world. Some of us move quickly and some slowly, some of us concentrate on a few things and others are always looking for something new to add to their long list of activities. There is no one right way, there is just the way that is right for you!

    LOVE that clutch!

  17. Glenda, you look amazing in that pencil skirt! So elegant and sexy! And I love the heels, too.

    'I've been busy' is an answer I often give too by the way, but it's not something I am necessarily proud of. If anything I wish I was less busy, lol :-) I'd rather say: 'Been chilling, enjoying the good life!'

  19. Love this post, Glenda! I also adore this outfit on you. Sometimes life can get "busy", or full as I like to say, but taking moments to enjoy and be still...there's nothing like it. I'm learning that and appreciating those moments the older I get. Thanks for sharing...xo!
